The Parliamentary Breakfast under the patronage of Schahina Gambir, Member of the Bundestag Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen, on 8 November 2023 dealt with the topic "Democracy needs political education: Respect coaches are democracy coaches – important structures of political education in schools must not be lost". Professor Nele McElvany gave an input lecture on the topic of "Political and social competence of pupils in Germany – relevance, level and determinants" together with Pascal Alscher and Dr. Ulrich Ludewig from the perspective of empirical educational research. The findings were discussed in the context of the Startchancen programme with Dr. Gabi Elverich from the Free University of Berlin, Hannah Lorenzen, spokesperson for the Joint Initiative for Political Youth Education (GEMINI) and the parliamentarians. The event explored the question of how the federal Respekt Coaches programme can be transferred to the planned Startchancen programme.
