The Yearbook „Demokratiepädagogik & Demokratiebildung“ 2025/26, edited by Prof. Dr. Beutel, Prof. Dr. Busch and Dr. Ruberg, has been published.

Transformation is a key concept for the profound changes and crises of the globally challenged modern era. Ongoing change is reflected not only in new opportunities and visions of progress but, more importantly, in threats, crises, wars, and the technological upheaval of digitalization, which calls into question the autonomy of human reason and control. These developments have far-reaching implications for education and schooling.

The central task of educational research and practice lies in transformative design, which develops future scenarios and establishes a democracy-strengthening framework for schools and education—a framework that promotes diversity and includes as many stakeholders as possible. Creativity, confidence, and broad participation are essential to shaping the future of democracy and its educational processes in a forward-thinking manner.

The authors engage with both theoretical reflections and practice-oriented educational approaches to critically examine transformation processes and open up perspectives for action in educational practice.
