In view of the digital transformation and changing demands on a contemporary learning culture, Prof. Dr. Silvia-Iris Beutel and Dr. Christiane Ruberg discuss how school examinations can be designed to be meaningful and conducive to learning. Based on six theses on "Investment in Performance", "Diagnostics and Support", "Participative Teaching-learning Designs", "Democracy and Sustainability" as well as "Authorisation Systems" and "Digital media", current research findings and practical insights into an examination culture aimed at educational equity and sustainability will be discussed.
