International experts discussed the topic of "Socio-emotional and cognitive development in learning" at the 9th Dortmund SYM on July 4.

With the participation of numerous renowned international and national speakers, the IFS hosted the 9th Dortmund Symposium on Empirical Educational Research on July 4, 2024 on the topic of "Socio-emotional and cognitive development in learning: educational goals in competition?". Theoretical approaches and current findings were presented and discussed in order to explore the question of whether these two educational goals actually contradict each other or to what extent they can support each other under certain conditions. The speakers included Professor Sara Rimm-Kaufman (University of Virginia, USA), Professor Elsbeth Stern (ETH Zurich, Switzerland), Professor Florian Schmiedek (DIPF), Professor Anne Frenzel (LMU Munich), Professor Carmen Zurbriggen (University of Freiburg) and Professor Ricarda Steinmayr (TU Dortmund University). Selected early career researchers had the opportunity to present their work in the form of posters.

Many thanks to all speakers and participants for the exciting contributions and stimulating discussions.
