Uncertainty shapes democracy and education. The volume explores how schools and democracy education address current challenges.

The war in Europe initiated by Russia, the Covid pandemic, and climate change are exemplary fields of uncertainty. They present challenges for political design in democracy as well as for learning in schools. Uncertainty is more than ever a fundamental pedagogical experience and simultaneously a metaphor for tasks to be tackled. Schools and democracy education can help children and young people develop resilient future perspectives. Uncertainty can reveal ideas and projects in public-facing teaching and learning. The volume edited by Silvia-Iris Beutel and Christiane Ruberg addresses perspectives from educational theory, general didactics, socialization research, educational philosophy, political education, democracy education.
