2nd National Research Coordinator meeting for PIRLS 2026 in Copenhagen

From February 12 to 16, 2024, around 130 experts met in Copenhagen to plan details for the next cycle of the PIRLS 2026 reading literacy study. In addition to representatives of the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) and the International Study Center at Boston College, the responsible National Research Coordinators (NRC) from around 60 countries took part.
Professor Nele McElvany as NRC and head of the consortium and PD Dr. Ramona Lorenz in her role as operational project manager together with Professor Anita Schilcher, University of Regensburg, as a member of the consortium, took part in the meeting for Germany. The focus of the meeting was on the development of the test materials. During the meeting, particular attention was paid to the identification of suitable texts that can be used across cultures and to the development of test items. The aim of the study is an international comparison of the reading literacy of students at the end of fourth grade.
